AMD to invest $400 million in India by 2028: Here’s what we know

US chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices said on Friday it will invest around $400 million in India over the next five years and will build its largest design center in the tech hub of Bengaluru. AMD’s announcement was made by its Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster at an annual semiconductor conference that started Friday in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat. Other speakers at the flagship event include Foxconn Chairman Young Liu and Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra. Despite being a late entrant, the Modi government has been courting investments into India’s nascent chip sector to establish its credentials as a chipmaking hub. AMD said it will open its new design centre campus in Bengaluru by end of this year and create 3,000 new engineering roles within five years. “Our India teams will continue to play a pivotal role in delivering the high-performance and adaptive solutions that support AMD customers worldwide,” Papermaster said. OnePlus to announce foldable phones later this year: All you need to know

OnePlus was rumored to launch a foldable smartphone sometime back. However, there wasn’t any official confirmation by the brand. Now, at the Cloud 11 event, OnePlus itself confirmed that it is gearing up for the release of its first foldable phone.

Additionally, it also shared the release timeline of the device, signaling that it will soon join the foldable bandwagon that’s currently dominated by brands like Samsung and Huawei.

OnePlus foldable phones to launch sooner than expected

OnePlus has confirmed that it will launch its first foldable phone in Q3 this year. This means by September of this year, we’ll get to see a OnePlus-branded foldable phone.

It is worth noting that Samsung releases its foldables every year around August, which means OnePlus foldable will be a new competition to Samsung’s Fold series.

While there’s no official information from the brand, OnePlus might as well release a flip phone. For starters, two trademark filings for OnePlus phones were spotted sometime back.

These trademarks were for two of the OnePlus foldable models – the OnePlus V Fold and the OnePlus V Flip. You read that right, OnePlus also has a flip phone up its sleeve.

The OnePlus V Fold will likely compete with the yet-to-launch Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, whereas, the OnePlus V Flip will go against the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.

As of now, only the monikers have been revealed. No information about the specs is available. However, there are reports that indicate these OnePlus foldables to be inspired by Oppo foldables.

Oppo currently has the Oppo Find N2 and Oppo Find N2 Flip, which were launched in December 2022, in China. The company is expected to showcase these devices at the MWC to the global markets.

If we go by the reports, the upcoming OnePlus V Fold and V Flip could be rebadged devices.
