AMD to invest $400 million in India by 2028: Here’s what we know

US chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices said on Friday it will invest around $400 million in India over the next five years and will build its largest design center in the tech hub of Bengaluru. AMD’s announcement was made by its Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster at an annual semiconductor conference that started Friday in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat. Other speakers at the flagship event include Foxconn Chairman Young Liu and Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra. Despite being a late entrant, the Modi government has been courting investments into India’s nascent chip sector to establish its credentials as a chipmaking hub. AMD said it will open its new design centre campus in Bengaluru by end of this year and create 3,000 new engineering roles within five years. “Our India teams will continue to play a pivotal role in delivering the high-performance and adaptive solutions that support AMD customers worldwide,” Papermaster said. OnePlus Pad specifications leaked ahead of launch in India

OnePlus is launching its first tablet, OnePlus Pad, at its event scheduled to take place later today. Coming alongside other products such as the OnePlus 11, OnePlus 11R, OnePlus Buds Pro 2, and OnePlus Q2 Pro QLED TV, the OnePlus Pad has been a part of the company’s teasers that it has shared to build the hype. The full look and the specifications of the tablet, however, have yet to become official. After some renders, the specifications have now been leaked.

Contrary to the speculation, the OnePlus Pad will have a mix of some interesting specifications, but the most interesting part is that there won’t be an AMOLED display on the tablet. According to Abhishek Yadav, the OnePlus Pad will come with an 11.6-inch 2K LCD panel, not an AMOLED display. While we have seen LCD on a few premium devices previously, it does not go well with customers who are sensitive about the hardware in the high-end market. The screen will, however, support a 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision.

The rest of the specifications of the OnePlus Pad include a Dimensity 9000, which is one of MediaTek’s high-end processors. This means the tablet would offer high performance, likely powerful enough for playing games. The OnePlus Pad may come with a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. The renders show the rear camera will be located at the centre of the back panel of the tablet. The OnePlus Pad would also come with a 9500mAh battery with 67W fast charging and there will be support for the stylus, as well.

Some leaked images shared by Yadav show the OnePlus Pad would come with quad speakers and support a keyboard using the pogo connector. Details of the software are unclear at the moment, but OnePlus is expected to have developed a forked version of OxygenOS to support various functionalities of a tablet.
