AMD to invest $400 million in India by 2028: Here’s what we know

US chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices said on Friday it will invest around $400 million in India over the next five years and will build its largest design center in the tech hub of Bengaluru. AMD’s announcement was made by its Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster at an annual semiconductor conference that started Friday in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat. Other speakers at the flagship event include Foxconn Chairman Young Liu and Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra. Despite being a late entrant, the Modi government has been courting investments into India’s nascent chip sector to establish its credentials as a chipmaking hub. AMD said it will open its new design centre campus in Bengaluru by end of this year and create 3,000 new engineering roles within five years. “Our India teams will continue to play a pivotal role in delivering the high-performance and adaptive solutions that support AMD customers worldwide,” Papermaster said. Netflix accidentally reveals upcoming password sharing rules

Netflix has accidentally revealed a few rules for its upcoming paid password sharing feature. The streaming platform is testing the feature where users will need to pay a certain amount of fee if they are sharing their password with someone outside of their household.

Netflix password sharing guidelines leaked

For the unversed, Netflix has already launched a feature that will allow users to kick off freeloaders from using their accounts.

The guidelines applicable in Chile, Peru and Costa Rica were posted accidentally on the help centre pages including in the US. These guidelines have now been taken down.

As per a Netflix spokesperson, “For a brief time yesterday, a help center article containing information that is only applicable to Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru went live in other countries. We have since updated it.”

To ensure that the account is being used in just one single household, the trial will require users to connect their viewing devices like TV, mobile phone or tablet to wifi in their home. They will need to open the Netflix app and watch something on the streaming service at least once in every 31 days.

As per a previous report, Netflix has said that it will verify a device by sending a link to the email address or phone number associated with the primary account owner. The link opens a page with a four-digit verification code that users need to enter on the device that requested it within 15 minutes.

They will be able to watch Netflix only when they enter the four-digit verification code within the prescribed time. Furthermore, the company said that ‘device verification may be required periodically’ without specifying the exact time period.

Talking about the need for account verification, Netflix said that “as long as the device being used to watch Netflix is using the internet connection in the primary account owner’s household, it will not require verification.”
