AMD to invest $400 million in India by 2028: Here’s what we know

US chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices said on Friday it will invest around $400 million in India over the next five years and will build its largest design center in the tech hub of Bengaluru. AMD’s announcement was made by its Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster at an annual semiconductor conference that started Friday in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat. Other speakers at the flagship event include Foxconn Chairman Young Liu and Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra. Despite being a late entrant, the Modi government has been courting investments into India’s nascent chip sector to establish its credentials as a chipmaking hub. AMD said it will open its new design centre campus in Bengaluru by end of this year and create 3,000 new engineering roles within five years. “Our India teams will continue to play a pivotal role in delivering the high-performance and adaptive solutions that support AMD customers worldwide,” Papermaster said. Motorola is expected to launch Edge 40 Pro soon in the global markets. Ahead of its launch, the device has made it to several certifications. This time, the smartphone has emerged on the Geekbench portal revealing its chipset under the hood.

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro will be a successor to the Motorola Edge 30 Pro. It is expected to bring a better display, improved cameras, and faster charging speeds.

Motorola Edge 40 Pro passes Geekbench to reveal Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro has made it to Geekbench 5. The benchmark result shows the performance of the smartphone while also revealing its chipset. The device has scored 1480 points in the single-core department and 4889 in the multi-core department.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC with a maximum clock speed of 3.19GHz. It has 11.00GB of RAM, which translates to 12GB since Geekbench always shows lesser RAM than actual.

Interestingly, the device runs on Android 13 OS out of the box. We expect it to have My UX on top of it with custom Moto apps and support for Moto actions.

Apart from this, there’s nothing else to look at on the Geekbench document. However, rumors suggest that the Edge 40 Pro will likely be a rebranded Moto X40 for the global markets.

The Moto X40 was launched back in December 2022 in China. The device has a 6.7-inch punch-hole OLED display with FHD+ resolution. It has a 165Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support.

One of the major camera features of the phone is the presence of a 60MP selfie lens. The selfie camera can shoot 4K videos at 30fps.

The device is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset coupled with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

It houses a 4,600mAh battery with 125W wired and 15W wireless fast charging support. It also has reverse wireless charging.
