AMD to invest $400 million in India by 2028: Here’s what we know

US chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices said on Friday it will invest around $400 million in India over the next five years and will build its largest design center in the tech hub of Bengaluru. AMD’s announcement was made by its Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster at an annual semiconductor conference that started Friday in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat. Other speakers at the flagship event include Foxconn Chairman Young Liu and Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra. Despite being a late entrant, the Modi government has been courting investments into India’s nascent chip sector to establish its credentials as a chipmaking hub. AMD said it will open its new design centre campus in Bengaluru by end of this year and create 3,000 new engineering roles within five years. “Our India teams will continue to play a pivotal role in delivering the high-performance and adaptive solutions that support AMD customers worldwide,” Papermaster said. Apple iPhone Ultra for 2024 could be pricier than you think

Apple for some time has been rumored to launch an iPhone with the ‘Ultra’ branding. While this year’s iPhone 15 lineup may or may not have a phone with the ‘Ultra’ moniker, the specs are said to be still upgraded, making the Pro lineup distinct from the vanilla models.

As per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company could launch an ‘Ultra’ premium iPhone next year. And its pricing could make it an opulent device just like the Apple Watch Ultra.

Apple’s 2024 iPhone Ultra may have distinct features at a distinct price

Gurman in his newsletter has shed some light on what Tim Cook believes about the increasing price of the iPhone.

“I think people are willing to really stretch to get the best they can afford in that category,” said Cook.

As per Gurman, Apple has internally discussed introducing a higher-end iPhone to the top of its smartphone lineup.

Contrary to previous news that said the Pro Max could be replaced with the Ultra, the journalist has now revealed that the Ultra could be a separate phone altogether.

The iPhone Ultra for next year could have several features such as a better camera, a faster chip, and a larger display. Apple may also drop the charging port on the Ultra, if it decides to add some future-forward features.

All of this could make the 2024’s iPhone Ultra a pricier iPhone than ever. Apple has already used the Ultra branding on some of its products such as the Apple Watch and the top version of the M1 chip.

While both are more expensive than their counterparts, they offer an edge either in features or performance. Similarly, The iPhone Ultra, as said above, may offer plenty of things over the other models but could arrive at an expensive price.

This year, Apple may or may not bring an Ultra device but it is expected to add a periscope lens on the top-of-the-line model. Now remains to be seen what Apple calls its top-of-the-line iPhone this year, iPhone 15 Pro Max or iPhone 15 Ultra.
