AMD to invest $400 million in India by 2028: Here’s what we know

US chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices said on Friday it will invest around $400 million in India over the next five years and will build its largest design center in the tech hub of Bengaluru. AMD’s announcement was made by its Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster at an annual semiconductor conference that started Friday in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat. Other speakers at the flagship event include Foxconn Chairman Young Liu and Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra. Xiaomi today launched a slew of Redmi-branded devices in India. The company today launched the Redmi 11 Prime series consisting of the Redmi 11 Prime 5G and its 4G variant, the Redmi 11 Prime, in India. It succeeds the Redmi 10 Prime that was launched in India at a starting price of Rs 12,499 back in September 2021. In addition to this, the company also launched a budget smartphone dubbed as the Redmi A1 to cater to the smartphone users who are transitioning from a feature phone to a smartphone.

As far as pricing is concerned, the Redmi 11 Prime 5G comes in two variants — the 4GB + 64GB variant costs Rs 13,999, while the 6GB + 128GB variant costs Rs 15,999. As a part of the launch offer, Xiaomi India is offering a discount of Rs 1,000 to the interested buyers who pay for their purchases using their ICICI Bank credit cards or credit and debit card EMI. Post this discount the 4GB+64GB variant of the device will cost Rs 12,999 while the 6GB+128GB variant of the device will be available for Rs 14,999. Additional benefits include 12GB of free data for Jio users.

As far as the availability is concerned, the Redmi 11 Prime 5G will go on sale in India starting 12PM on September 9 via mi.com, Mi Home, Amazon India and retail stores.

On the other hand, the the 4GB + 64GB variant of the Redmi 11 Prime costs Rs 12,999, while the 6GB + 128GB variant of the device costs Rs 14,999.

Lastly, the Redmi A1 with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage space costs Rs 6,499. It will go on sale in India starting 4PM on September 9 via mi.com, Mi Home, Amazon India and retail stores.

Redmi 11 Prime 5G specifications

Coming to the specifications, the Redmi 11 Prime 5G comes with a 6.58-inch FHD+ display with a screen refresh rate of up to 90Hz, resolution of 2408 x 1080 pixels and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 700 system-on-chip (SoC) and ARM Mali-G57 MC2 GPU that are coupled with up to 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. This storage space can be expanded further using a microSD card with up to 512GB of space. It runs Android 12-based MIUI 13.

On the camera front, the Redmi 11 Prime 5G sports a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 50MP primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, it has an 8MP selfie camera. The phone is backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging technology. Additional features include dual SIM support, dual 5G SIM standby support, 3.5mm headphone jack, hi-res audio and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The Redmi 11 Prime 5G comes in Meadow Green, Chrome Silver and Thunder Black colour variants.

The 4G variant of the Redmi 11 Prime, on the other hand, comes with a 6.58-inch FHD+ 90Hz display. It is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset that is coupled with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 4GB of storage space. Additionally, it offers up to 8GB of RAM booster. It runs Android 12-based MIUI 13.

On the camera front, the phone has a triple camera setup consisting of a 50MP primary camera, a 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro sensor. On the front, it has an 8MP selfie camera. The phone is backed by a 5,000mAh battery and it comes in Green, Black and Purple colour variants.

Redmi A1 specifications

Lastly, the Redmi A1 sports a 6.52-inch HD+ Scratch resistant display with a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels and a peak brightness of 400 nits. It is powered by the MediaTek Helio A22 chipset that is coupled with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage space. It runs Android 12 Go Edition. On the camera front, the Redmi A1 has an 8MP dual AI camera at the back and a 5MP selfie camera. It is backed by a 5,000mAh battery with 10W fast charging support. Additional features include dual SIM card support and dual 4G support.

The Redmi A1 comes in Black, Green and Blue colour variants.
