AMD to invest $400 million in India by 2028: Here’s what we know

US chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices said on Friday it will invest around $400 million in India over the next five years and will build its largest design center in the tech hub of Bengaluru. AMD’s announcement was made by its Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster at an annual semiconductor conference that started Friday in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat. Other speakers at the flagship event include Foxconn Chairman Young Liu and Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra. Despite being a late entrant, the Modi government has been courting investments into India’s nascent chip sector to establish its credentials as a chipmaking hub. AMD said it will open its new design centre campus in Bengaluru by end of this year and create 3,000 new engineering roles within five years. “Our India teams will continue to play a pivotal role in delivering the high-performance and adaptive solutions that support AMD customers worldwide,” Papermaster said. Xiaomi launches Mi Smart Steam Oven 30L in Philippines, India launch also rumoured

Xiaomi has been venturing more into the smart home category lately and going forward, it seems there’s more to come. The company just launched its Mi Smart Steam Oven 30L in Philippines today at a price of Php 14,645 (approximately Rs 21,000). Xiaomi had reserved such home appliances for the Chinese market only and it seems global markets will be getting these products soon.

The Mi Smart Steam Oven 30L, unlike conventional microwave ovens, can steam, bake, simmer, ferment and dehydrate food. Xiaomi says that it does these functions via its temperature control mechanism and a strong thermal circulation fan. Bottom line is, you will be able to cook rice, fry vegetables, and bake the main course with this oven.

The over is rated at 1200W and has a 30-liter compartment. This is essentially an electric steam oven that features five steaming and cleaning modes. Users can choose from various cooking modes such as Regular Steaming, Pure Steaming, Slow Cooked, Fermented, and Dehydrated modes. Xiaomi says that these modes can allow for both crisply cooked and baked foods in the same oven.

The Mi Smart Steam Oven’s also gets five cleaning modes that include Oven Cavity, Machine Cleaning, Pipeline Cleaning, Deep Cleaning, and Scale Cleaning. Xiaomi says that it comes with an easily replaceable water filter cartridge. There’s also a bottom pullout 1.2-liter water tank for modulating the device’s temperature.

Additionally, the oven’s door is protected by three layers of insulated glass and low-emissivity glass within. There’s a control knob with an OLED display in between that allows for adjusting cooking temperature, time, and keep an eye on the water levels. Plus, the user can control it via the Mi Home App, which is also the same one used to control other smart Xiaomi products.

As of now, Xiaomi is yet to confirm an India launch for the same. That said, a possibility of that happening cannot be denied as the company is venturing into more categories since last year. The Mi Robot Vacuum Mop-P cleaner was launched last year to mark the foray into the home cleaning space. We reviewed it earlier this year and found it to be a useful addition during these complex WFH times.
