AMD to invest $400 million in India by 2028: Here’s what we know

US chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices said on Friday it will invest around $400 million in India over the next five years and will build its largest design center in the tech hub of Bengaluru. AMD’s announcement was made by its Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster at an annual semiconductor conference that started Friday in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat. Other speakers at the flagship event include Foxconn Chairman Young Liu and Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra. Despite being a late entrant, the Modi government has been courting investments into India’s nascent chip sector to establish its credentials as a chipmaking hub. AMD said it will open its new design centre campus in Bengaluru by end of this year and create 3,000 new engineering roles within five years. “Our India teams will continue to play a pivotal role in delivering the high-performance and adaptive solutions that support AMD customers worldwide,” Papermaster said. Today’s Tech News: Realme X7 series India launch, Apple iOS 14.4 update and more

The tech world is soon to witness multiple launches of various new smartphones as the launch dates for the Realme X7 series and the Poco M3 have been confirmed for the Indian market. After leaving OnePlus, Carl Pei has announced his new venture dubbed ‘Nothing’ and Apple has released the latest iOS 14.4 software update.

However, not everything was all rosy. Twitter suspended over 300 accounts post the tractor rally in India and ByteDance laid-off employees now that TikTok is permanently banned in India. Here’s a look at the top tech news at BGR.in.

Realme X7 series India launch date revealed

After tons of speculations and official teasers, the Realme X7 series (consisting of the Realme X7 and the Realme X7 Pro) is set to launch in India on February 4. The smartphones will be mid-rangers and come with support for 5G. The upcoming Realme duo, which officially made its entry in China last year, will come with Super AMOLED displays, 65W fast charging, MediaTek Dimensity processors, and up to 64-megapixel quad rear cameras. Apple releases iOS 14.4 version

Apple has released the latest version of iOS 14 — iOS 14.4 — specifically focused on security improvements and fixes. It will also allow the iPhone camera to scan smaller QR codes and the option to categorize Bluetooth devices. Additionally, iPadOS 14.4 has also been released. Carl Pei announces ‘Nothing’

OnePlus co-founder, after leaving the company, has started out on a new journey and has now launched its ‘Nothing’ venture. The venture has received a seed investment of $7 million from known names in the tech world such as Apple vice-president Tony Fadell, Casey Neistat (YouTuber), Kevin Lin (Co-founder of Twitch), and more. ‘Nothing’ is expected to be an audio venture and is slated to release its first product in the first half of 2021. Poco M3 launching in India on Feb 2

Poco is all set to launch a new smartphone in its M series, the Poco M3, in India on February 2. The smartphone will be a budget device and act as a successor to the Poco M2. It will come with a 6.53-inch display, 48-megapixel triple rear cameras, a 6,000mAh battery, and more features. While we don’t have an official word, the Poco M3 is expected to fall under Rs 15,000. ByteDance massive layoffs in India

TikTok, among many other Chinese apps, has been permanently banned in India. This has led ByteDance (TikTok’s parent company) to cut down its Indian operations and had laid off a major part of its workforce, which totaled up to more than 2,000. The company has also discontinued its other apps such as Vigo Video in India after TikTok was banned. Read here for more details.

Twitter purges 300 accounts post tractor rally

Twitter has suspended more than 300 accounts after the tractor rally in India that took place on the 72nd Republic Day. The decision was taken to curb spam and manipulative information began spreading after the rally turned violent in several parts of Delhi-NCR. Read here for more details.
