AMD to invest $400 million in India by 2028: Here’s what we know

US chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices said on Friday it will invest around $400 million in India over the next five years and will build its largest design center in the tech hub of Bengaluru. AMD’s announcement was made by its Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster at an annual semiconductor conference that started Friday in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat. Other speakers at the flagship event include Foxconn Chairman Young Liu and Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra. Despite being a late entrant, the Modi government has been courting investments into India’s nascent chip sector to establish its credentials as a chipmaking hub. AMD said it will open its new design centre campus in Bengaluru by end of this year and create 3,000 new engineering roles within five years. “Our India teams will continue to play a pivotal role in delivering the high-performance and adaptive solutions that support AMD customers worldwide,” Papermaster said. Samsung Galaxy S20, Google Pixel phones get July security update

The Samsung Galaxy S20 series has started receiving the latest July security update. Users who are based in the US will get the update in the coming days. Google has also released the same software update for its phones. These include Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL. This security update is being rolled out in a phased manner depending on carrier and device.

Users will get a notification once it becomes available. Google has published the latest Android Security Bulletin and hasn’t mentioned any major fixes for the Pixel series. It does fix some issues. As for the Samsung Galaxy S20 series, the update is about 220MB in size. The Samsung users will witness firmware versions G988U1ES1ATFB, G988U1OYM1ATFB, and G988U1UESATFB rolling out over the next few days.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 update only brings the security update and the company didn’t mention any notable fixes. Samsung hasn’t shared many details about the newly released update. It is only known that the latest security update is for the US unlocked models. The South Korean giant is expected to release the same update for other markets too.

To recall, the Samsung Galaxy S20 series was launched in India for Rs 66,999. this price is for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus is available for Rs 73,999, which is for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model. Lastly, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is priced at Rs 92,999. For the same, the brand is selling the 12GB RAM and 128GB internal storage variant. It was launched back in February 2020.
